Review: Aegean Blue by Common Holly

Written by Sophie Minello

Common Holly pulls you into her world with a soft hum that stacks up like waves washing over each other, before breaking into a beautiful verse.

“Do what you do best,

Make me a river I can run through”

“Aegean Blue” was released April 2nd with the announcement of Brigitte Naggar’s third album Anything Glass, set for June 13th. As her first release since 2021, “Aegean Blue” shows a consistency as it pulls from the charm of past releases; haunting instrumentation, evocative lyricism, and her soft yet commanding voice. These elements come together to captivate listeners, pulling them in and asking them to be present with her music.

Naggar has a knack for telling a story, this one showcasing a decisive turning point; or a past contemplation of one. The single feels reflective; like a memory slowly creeping up on you in the movement of a flowing river or a cloth blowing in the wind — two pieces of imagery used in the accompanying music video. It’s easy to be transported into the atmosphere that Common Holly creates. With this strong single release, Anything Glass is a much anticipated release.

Keep your eye on the album here and be sure to follow Brigitte on Instagram.
