Review: High on Halloween by Fairhazel and BEL

By Sophie Minello

Fairhazel x Bel is a collaboration made in heaven. They’ve paired up to grace listeners with their new single “High on Halloween.” With voices flowing together and blending perfectly with the accompanied instrumentation, the emotion in the song is immediately palpable. Everything joins together in harmony, sonically and lyrically, to create an atmosphere that perfectly captures the disconnected anxiety of a wallflower in a crowded room.

The song is an interesting intersection of pop, indie, folk, and a perfect sprinkle of a country drawl. The verses respond to each other, depicting two people in an uncomfortable atmosphere. The anxiety of being high in the crowdedness of a party makes for an overwhelmed and on edge individual, and this song perfectly captures that emotion. However, it doesn’t feel uncomfortable, instead the song acknowledges the emotion and comforts it through the melancholy harmonies. Give it a listen and be sure to follow the artists.
