Live Music: Andy Shauf
By Sophie Minello
Andy Shauf has an absolutely flawless and timeless voice, paired with a comforting and fun presence. This is what makes his concerts one of a kind. Thalia Hall welcomed a sold out crowd in late February to gather and appreciate Shauf’s music.

Opening was Molly Sarlé, a North Caroline act with some beautiful, personal songs. Sarlé had an elegant presence, wearing a gorgeous gown as she played the majority of the set alone, joined towards the end with a drummer and pianist. Throughout her set, she had the crowd laughing and engaging with her and her music. Her music was nothing short of personal, and it was a moment that the crowd appreciated and shared.

When Andy took the stage, he got to one knee and chugged some bottle of what I assume to be alcohol along with the drummer for the night. “This’ll be an interesting show,” he laughed before beginning “Neon Skyline,” the title track of his new album released in January of this year. The lights were dim, and there was a bright circular light that looked somewhat like a halo over the cast of musicians. They didn’t fall short of ambiance, and transported the whole crowd into the world of Andy Shauf music.
