What a wild collection of songs. Each is meant to be taken alone. It’s not a playlist, but a compilation. The genres jump all around, clashing into each other. I think this collection of songs as the beginning of a rollercoaster. A smooth, soothing start but then the bumps come. Will Orchard’s My Belly is Full of Hydrangea vibrates with the power of a small universe whereas Counterfeit’s The New Insane throws you into the world of chaos and ritual.

So many of the artists on here have just released or announced new albums. This year is going to be heavy in new releases from small bands. I can’t begin to explain how excited I am for Half Waif’s The Caretaker or Conan Gray’s Kid Krow. It’s vital to keep your eyes peeled on the artists you love, for they’re bound to have an exciting announcement on the horizon. For everyone, it seems that 2020 is a year to embark on new paths.

Two hometown friends are featured on this playlist, Quinn L’Esperance and Jassick. These aren’t the usual genres that appear on Sunlight, but despite not finding immediate love in these genres, my appreciation for them is grand.
To close off the playlist, we have the wonderful Fenn Rosenthal’s viral song Dinosaurs in Love. The four year old’s father, Tom Rosenthal, is a profound musician, and Fenn is his four year old daughter. Let’s go into this year with the pureness and eyes of a child. Let’s be simple and loving and in love.
