Spring 2020 is when you’re planning to release a new LP. What can you tell us about the process of making this album?

We’re really excited and we have a great team working on it with us. We have Paul and Sam, who helped us with ‘Lost Touch’ and our friend Dean who used to work with us on our earliest self-releases. We’re going to have tastes from our past work, but also want to show our growth.

How would you describe the album in three words?

Not finished yet.

Describe your musical and lyrical inspiration for these new songs. Were there any bands that influenced you? Are there themes throughout it?

I can’t speak too much for the lyrics because that’s Randy’s department. However, I always get inspired to write when listening to New Found Glory and there’s a Canadian band called ‘Youth Decay’. I always love their structure and the punch their songs have.

This album was made while you were newly signed to Revival Recordings. What was it like working with that label?

Revival have been really supportive.  They’re letting us write the record that we want to make.

You’ve been a band since 2011, nearing your 10 year anniversary. Looking back, what are some big lessons you’ve learned since you started?

My biggest lesson was how long it took us to start playing within the US.  I wish we had the know how back then.  We didn’t really know where to find the answers. It still is a lengthy process.  But, I wish we started doing it a lot earlier.

You just finished a lengthy U.S. tour. What are some highlights from that run?

The tour we just finished with Assuming We Survive was one of our favourite tours we’ve done.  The entire month was a highlight.  We connected really well with those guys and we played some really amazing shows.

Since you’re from Canada, are there any differences you notice when playing U.S. shows vs. Canadian shows?

Not necessarily.  This last tour, we started in the US and dipped back into Canada before going back into the US.  They’re definitely some towns where people like to get rowdier!

For new listeners, what do you think is important to know about We Were Sharks?

We’ve been doing this for 10 years and we’re probably going to keep doing it long after you forget about us.
